JET-BIKE (PWC) YAMAHA VX110 Deluxe

This is the newest piece of equipment purchased by HIRB, which will help with a quicker response time to call-outs. The PWC can be operated by one person where as the RIB needs the minimum of three and takes longer to launch.

The PWC we use is a Yamaha Wave Runner VX110 Deluxe watercraft which is a 110hp 4-stroke engine with a speed of around 50mph.

"Local Rescue in partnership with the World's Local Bank"

In early 2005,Sue Hickson-Marsay-(the only female Pilot Launch Coxswain in the country) met with Joanne Sharp FCIPD and Kosta Chistofi-HRD Consultants with HSBC Bank, in order to form a working partnership with a view to generating funds to purchase and operate a Rapid Response Vessel for the local community.

After conducting research into similar projects operated by their counter parts in Australia and other parts of the UK, Sue wanted to improve the service provided by the Hornsea Rescue team, in particular the launch times etc.

'HSBC in the community' represented by Allan Wilkinson from HSBC- Hull Division, financed the purchase of a personal water craft (jet bike). The model agreed upon was a four stroke Yamaha, which was supplied by the local jet ski centre at 'Fosse Hill'.

Combined with the assistance of local businesses, such as 'Fosse Hill Jet Ski Centre' and the continued effort and hard work of the many local volunteers, this acquisition has ensured that Hornsea Inshore Rescue can provide the visitors that enjoy the beach and its immediate inshore waters with a safe environment and a rapid response vehicle to further compliment the existing inshore life boat.
