The New Boathouse and Sea-Safe Education Centre
Over the
last few years we have had discussions with the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, which owns the land along the seafront at
Hornsea, and we were granted both a 99-year lease and planning permission to enable us to go ahead with our new boathouse.
The first part of the project, which is the building of exterior walls with drainage etc began
in August 2008, and was completed by December 2008. Interior walls and all fittings are part of the second stage which
is being undertaken as and when we have sufficient funds. Members of the Hornsea Rescue team together with local tradesmen
have been working extremely hard on this project and we became fully operational from this building on 31st January
2010 (although there is still quite a lot of internal finishing to complete).
The largest room
will house the rescue boat and tractor along with our jet-bike, and includes a workshop area and a small adjoining store room.
There are large roller-shutter doors opening onto a hard standing apron with wash-down facilities as the boat and engines
have to be washed down to remove salt water after use.
The Operations Room and Sea Safe Education
Centre will be provided with an arrangement of large tables and chairs for meetings and training. We hope to install a new
computer suite with a large screen or interactive whiteboards etc and . Hornsea Lions have donated £7,500 for
the structure of this room, which will be called the "Lions Room".
There will also be
a drying room where suits will be stored, a kitchen, two toilets one with facilities for the disabled and a fund-raisers store
room. Outside there is a parking area including space for the disabled, and the whole site is be surrounded by a security
fence.
