About Us

About Hornsea Inshore Rescue

Hornsea Inshore Rescue is a local independent charity that was established thanks to the strong support of the local community, who believed our services were needed in a coastal community that attracts thousands of visitors throughout the year. Since we began in 1994 we have been involved in the saving of lives.

From our humble beginnings in a pig shed to our new purpose-built boat house and sea safe educational centre, our volunteers are operational throughout the year. But we are so much more than just a lifeboat crew. As well as providing a life-saving inshore rescue service we also have a team of highly trained volunteers who deliver educational talks and presentations to local businesses and schools, and RYA approved courses on being safe at sea.

All of this is done with the support of local people, Hornsea Inshore Rescue receives no funding from the Government or from the RNLI. We couldn`t do the life-saving work that we do without your help.

Thank you.

Tools to do the job

The crewmembers of Hornsea Rescue have a range of vital equipment on hand to be able to support rescues both on land and out of the North Sea. Each piece of equipment has played its part in many rescues across the years, from our first rescue boat Charity Venture, to the more recent additions of the de-fibrillator and, thanks to a generous anonymous donation, our new boat which comes fitted with the latest in navigation and lifesaving aides.

As well as the tireless work to generate funds to `keep the boat afloat` we are always aware of the need to improve our equipment as the challenges to preserve life grow. The distressing floods in 2007 and the tidal surge of 2013 made everyone aware of the devastating effects our ever changing climate can throw at us and we are proud to say that Hornsea Inshore Rescue are prepared and equipped to support any such eventuality in the future.
